in‘I expected more of a reaction the first time I hit her.’……..
….is the opening line to this novel that certainly captures your attention.
Oliver Ryan is a successful children’s writer living in Dublin with his wife. They have a privileged lifestyle and  a solid partnership or so it would appear until one night Oliver beats his wife Alice into a coma.
In the aftermath of the savage attack, Oliver’s story unfolds and so do the stories of those who have crossed his path throughout his life.
Irish writer, Liz Nugents, first novel is a gripping psychological thriller. The novel opens strong creating an atmosphere of suspense and a feeling of unease for the reader. It is a truly fascinating yet disturbing insight into the making of a sociopath. And of course, being a Dubliner, i loved the setting 🙂 . I really enjoyed this book and give it a good solid 4 star Dublin Mummy rating.
Have you read it? Did you love or loathe it? Let me know in the comments and if you have any good book recommendations i would love to hear them.

I have been reading lots of thrillers recently so decided to change things up and try a different genre. Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline is an epic story of an rich elderly Irish emigrant and a troubled teenage girl, an unlikely pair brought together by circumstance, only to find their life stories have alot in common.
