It looks like we are in for a lovely warm, dry and sunny weekend so make the most of it and get outdoors with the kids, here are 5 free things to do in Dublin this weekend:
- The Family Day Festival , Wolfe Tone Square, Dublin 1 (beside the Jervis Centre).
The sixth annual Family Day Festival taking place on Sunday 15 May. Brimming over with free fun and festivities, family-friendly performances including magician Brian Daly, comedian Joe Rooney, and Professor Plunger, a pop-up print shop with the National Print Museum, games, workshops, facepainters, balloon modellers and costumed characters. - Corkagh Park pet farm, Clondalkin.
The free pet farm at Corkagh Park in Clondalkin is well worth a visit. Home to a range of farm animals, birds and pets, younger children will love seeing the animals up close. - Guided Tours of the Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin.
An oasis of calm and beauty only 3km north of the city centre in Galsnevin. Every Sunday 12:00 & 14:30 they offer free guided tours. Please see their website http://www.botanicgardens.ie/ for more info.
- Dun Laoghaire Pier.
Nothing beats a walk/scoot along the pier to see the boats. Afterwards, there is the fantastic farmers market in the peoples park at the weekends as well as a playground and a plethora of family friend eateries along the sea front.
- Marlay Park Rathfarmham
Marlay park is a great spot with two playgrounds, duck ponds, a dog park and woodland trails including the Wicklow Way.The Miniature Railway operates on Saturday afternoons (weather permitting) from 2.30pm to 5.00pm from May to September.
