Still Alice by Lisa Genova is about a Harvard professor who is diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 50. The book is in Alice’s voice which makes it so unique as its told from the sufferers perspective. It is a gripping read and an emotional rollercoaster as she descends into dementia. This feels like a true story because it is so insightful and the reader learns so much about the disease.
This is one of the best books i have read recently but be warned it’s a tearjerker and perhaps not for those who’s loved ones have been affected by Alzheimer’s as it may cut a little close to the bone.
The film version is out in Irish cinemas on 6th March. Its stars include Julianne Moore, Alec Baldwin and Kristen Stewart. Trailer and reviews for the film look good but i really think this might another one where the book surpasses the movie.
Have you read the book already? What did you think?
